Built in the early 19th century, The Lawn was originally used as a hospital for Mental and Nervous Diseases. Today, it is home to Stokes Cafe and Roastery - the cafe is housed in what was once the cookhouse of the asylum.
Now a 60-seater restaurant, Stokes Lawn Cafe has been refurbished in the most eco-friendly way. With the help of the finest crafts people in Linconshire, Stokes carefully restored and recycled a multitude of items found at the site. Sofas and chairs were reupholstered with coffee sacks, whilst scaffolding boards, poles and pallets were upcycled into tables. With an eco ethos in mind, Stokes also commissioned a life-size killer whale, made from old coffee machine parts and car bumpers. Known as Lulu, this enormous sculpture is suspended from the rafters, welcoming guests as they arrive!
On the menu, you'll find a great selection of delicious dishes and sweet treats made with the finest, locally sourced produce. Enjoy traditional breakfasts, elegant light bites, afternoon teas (subject to availability), seasonal specials and hearty main meals. All dishes are served with Stokes famous fine teas and freshly roasted coffees.
For the coffee conisseurs, there is also a fantastic viewing area in the cafe, overlooking Stokes' roastery at The Lawn. You can watch the master roasters at work and smell the delicious coffee roasting away - all whilst enjoying a cup of the finished product!
